FAQ'S
35 treats / roll

Eggshell membrane is the clear film lining eggshells. Similar to glucosamine, it’s used to support joint health and mobility, and we add 624mg to each of our rolls! One brand of Eggshell Membrane, NEM, has been clinically proven to reduce pain and improve function in dogs suffering with joint problems, and more information can be read here:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6044796/

In comparison to other treats, when it comes to supporting joint health:

One of the leading dog treat brands uses 2,000mg/kg MAX glucosamine per bag (or 680mg total per 12oz bag), and 1,000mg/kg MAX chondroitin per bag (or 340mg/bag max), which is roughly 22.66mg of glucosamine/treat. For glucosamine, vets recommend 20-40mg/1lb of body weight as the daily dose. For a 50lb dog, and at the low end of 20mg/1lb of body weight, there's not even an efficacious amount of glucosamine in an entire bag of these treats for 1 day of support (a 50lb dog would need 1,000mg/day).

A second national dog treat brand has 100mg/kg max glucosamine per bag (or 28.3mg total per 10oz bag). There’s roughly 53 treats/bag, thus .53mg of glucosamine/treat. Their recommendation for a 50lb dog to have 2 treats/day = 1.06mg of glucosamine/day, which is 1,000x less than the recommended dose by a vet.

Another dog treat brand (and the market leader) uses 104mg of glucosamine/treat (roughly 6,240mg/bag), and an undisclosed amount of eggshell membrane. They recommend 1 treat per 15lbs of body weight, so 3 treats for a 50lb dog, and thus 312mg of glucosamine per day which is 1/3 the vet recommendation (but still a good dose for a treat).

In comparison:

The recommended mg/kg dose for Eggshell Membrane is 6.6X less than that for glucosamine, and thus at 624mg of Eggshell Membrane in each of our rolls, we're 6X the effective strength when comparing a "roll" of PAWKET TREATS to the first "bag" of treats listed above, and 33X the effective strength when comparing an "oz" to an "oz".

Adding more detail to this...

For Eggshell Membrane, manufacturers and vets have recommended that 3-6mg/1lb of body weight is the efficacious dose. It varies on the strength/manufacturer. At 3mg/day, and for a 50lb dog, we have 4 days worth of Eggshell Membrane in each roll IF these rolls were to be used as a strict supplement to support joints & mobility. For a 25lb dog, that’s 8 days. Since we’re a treat, 1 roll will last a 50lb dog 7-12 days (3-5 treats/day) which is a very similar “percent dosage” to the market leader listed above, being at roughly 1/2 to 1/3 the vet recommendation. The percent inclusion of our other functional ingredients is very similar (mushrooms, ashwagandha, etc).

These are our favorites!!, and we went a little crazy. Our Functional Mushrooms are an organic blend of Turkey Tail, Lions Mane, Reishi, Chaga, and Cordyceps. They’re sourced from the Pacific Northwest, and use both the mycelium and fruiting body to capture the full bioactive compounds and nutrients!

In general, this blend supports gut health and immunity.

More specifically, Turkey Tail supports the immune system and cellular health, and has antimicrobial, antiviral, antiallergic and anti-inflammatory properties with its two powerful beta-glucans. It’s also a prebiotic soluble fiber that ferments in the gut, and is considered an immune modulator. Lion’s Mane supports digestive health, the gastrointestinal tract, and nerve growth. It feeds the good gut bacteria, and the polypeptides and fatty acids support the immune system. Reishi supports the immune system, circulation and respiratory functions, and has antioxidant properties. Chaga is high in antioxidants, B vitamins, minerals and enzymes, and supports cellular health and the immune system. Cordyceps have antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antioxidant properties, and support the liver and kidney.

Ashwagandha is often called an adaptogen, meaning it supports balance in many different systems of the body. It’s a non-toxic, health-promoting plant that supports stress relief, anxiety, and recovery. It supports the immune system, contains high levels of iron and free amino acids, carotene, vitamin C, calcium, flavonoids, antioxidants and essential minerals. We absolutely love this plant!

Some are, some aren’t. Age, diet, activity level and breed play a big part. For example, some dogs are allergic to chicken or gluten or fish, but many aren’t. Dog’s, like humans, are all different.

To share more data:

Nonfat Dry Milk is a superfood: 36% protein by weight, carbs for energy, tons of calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, B’s and D, and it’s free of fat (which is a big issue with pet food/treats). Cow's milk has 5% lactose, goat's milk has 4.2% lactose, yak’s milk has 6% lactose. Milk is one of the first ingredients in Milk Bones, and it’s in almost every cheese-flavored dog treat.

Knowing that some dogs can be sensitive to Lactose, we added Lactase as a digestive enzyme, and always recommend to start with half the recommended amount of treats and gradually increase.
